Use of a purge sensor to improve performance and reduce the need for supervision of batch centrifugals

Batch centrifugals that operate like a spinning washing machine are used widely to separate raw sugar crystals from the mother molasses. This project will trial a Danish-made sensor to show when and how long to add wash water to the batch centrifugal, to purify the raw sugar crystals - a job that is usually done by a worker at the sugar mill.

Rubens Technologies takes fruit quality testing to the next level

Melbourne-based Rubens Technologies has combined an easy-to-use hand-held scanner with the intelligence of machine learning analytics to make non-destructive fruit testing and future quality predictions as easy as picking up cheap mangoes in Summer. Now, they’re on the hunt for more fruit growers to adopt the technology and investors who are ready to support the commercialisation of the device.

MLA funded BladeStop: a safety success story

MLA funded BladeStop technology is now bringing huge safety benefits for workers in processing plants across 25 countries.

  • BladeStop band saw safety system has reached a milestone of 1,000 units installed in processor plants across the world.
  • Developed by Machinery Automation and Robotics (now a part of Scott Technology) with funding from the MLA Donor Company, the technology reduces the risk of serious injury for workers by mechanically stopping the blade when the unit senses that the operator has come into contact.

Jane's Weather

Every day, weather forecasts are calculated by several global weather models. Traditional weather forecasts and apps show the solution from only one of these, so you either rely on that and hope for the best, or consult numerous sources to see the full picture. The second option involves spending time and effort comparing the different advice in your head.
