Risk assessment of alternative litter types

The chicken meat industry requires reliable supplies of safe high quality litter for meat chicken production. The Australian industry predominantly utilises straw, wood shavings or sawdust depending on region, however the supply and cost of litter products has increased substantially over recent years, and future supply of wood products may be constrained. This has forced the industry to investigate and use alternative litters. This project will provide an industry focused risk assessment method to assess alternative litters to enable the industry to make better alternative litter choices.
