More Profit from Nitrogen:Enhancing the Nutrient use efficiency of intensive cropping and pasture systems
This project aimed to improve the nitrogen use efficiency in the irrigated cotton, dairy, cherry, mango and sugar industries, by helping farmers and growers gain a better understanding of the factors that influence nitrogen cycling, and improve their confidence to adopt management practices tailored to their specific crop or pasture requirements. In addition, the project focussed on generating more knowledge and a better understanding of the interplay of factors in the nitrogen cycle, quantifying the rate and timing of nitrogen supply through mineralisation and developing more efficient fertilisers to better able to match a crop’s specific nitrogen requirements and an understanding of how different enhanced efficiency fertilisers perform under different conditions.
