Healthy Subsoils Produce More Red Meat
The Southern Australia Livestock Research Council (SALRC) promotes innovation and learning in the red meat and livestock industries of southeast Australia. This project funds a Producer Demonstration Site (PDS) to address the SALRC priority to 'Improve pasture establishment, productivity and persistence in landscapes prone to subsoil compaction or hard pan soil structure'. The project is to be conducted with the Yarra Valley Farmers and Alexandra/Mansfield Farmers Groups in north central Victoria.
The purpose of this PDS is to show that once a subsoil constraint is detected, then amelioration of soil constraint(s) will improve pasture production, and grazing enterprise resilience and profitability. This will give producers the confidence to apply the practices being demonstrated and utilise the latest pasture genetics.
