Identifying Value Proposition for Agtech Adoption

This project explored the value of agtech and digital innovation in five industries (ginger, rice, export fodder, hemp, and jackfruit). It mapped producer needs and opportunities for technologies, that are both in-use and under-development, to examine costs and benefits for producers and the supply chain. A strategic roadmap to drive technology adoption and digital transformation was co-designed with industry input.

Innovative nursery management solutions to sustainably manage root disease, improve nursery utilization, and enhance resilience and productivity of planted pines

Root-borne diseases are increasingly affecting tree production nurseries, lowering productivity and profitability. This project will improve nursery management by defining the right balance of fertilizer, fungicide and microbial inoculum to break the disease cycle, and use field trials to refine treatments to improve establishment and resilience post-planting.

Use of a purge sensor to improve performance and reduce the need for supervision of batch centrifugals

Batch centrifugals that operate like a spinning washing machine are used widely to separate raw sugar crystals from the mother molasses. This project will trial a Danish-made sensor to show when and how long to add wash water to the batch centrifugal, to purify the raw sugar crystals - a job that is usually done by a worker at the sugar mill.

Management options and species evaluation to increase productivity in dieback affected pastures - PHASE II

Pasture dieback is a condition that causes the death of sown and native pastures by affecting plant health and function, reducing productivity. By continuing work to evaluate new practices for the control of pasture dieback, and feed options for livestock, this project will help ensure the productivity and profitability of red meat enterprises in affected regions of Queensland.

uSuckled: Detection of maternal behaviours associatd with suckling in beef cattle

The detection of suckling is a good indicator of wellbeing, as a newborn calf must be able to stand, seek out the udder and attach to the teats of his mother. This project aims to use remote monitoring devices such as GPS trackers attached to cows to find out if a calf has been born, whether it was born alive and if it suckled normally or not. This would provide insights into the key drivers of production of commercial beef herds in northern Australia.
