Environmental risk factors that may contribute to vibrio outbreaks - A South Australian case study

The project aims to investigate the environmental risk factors contributing to recent vibrio outbreaks in South Australia, specifically in relation to commercially produced oysters. By collating and analyzing available environmental data associated with the outbreaks, the project seeks to identify and assess potential risk factors. This information will help improve understanding of vibrio prevalence and guide future surveillance and management strategies. By addressing data gaps and recommending data collection improvements, the project will contribute to the defense of current demand, consumer trust, and safety in oysters. Ultimately, this research will aid in mitigating the impact of vibrio outbreaks, ensuring the continued viability of the oyster industry in South Australia.
