Department of Primary Industries and Regions South Australia (PIRSA)

The South Australian Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) is a key economic development agency in the Government of South Australia, with responsibility to grow primary industries and drive regional development.

PIRSA provides research, development and extension services through the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) and Rural Solutions SA.

SARDI delivers applied science that grows South Australia’s primary industries, food and wine. It provides innovative advancements for the grains/cropping, wine, horticulture, fisheries and aquaculture, livestock (including wool), pig, poultry and food sectors. It works with industry, government and research partners to play a key role in growing production and profitability, informing the sustainable management of natural resources that underpin primary industries, protecting and enhancing market access for local businesses and products, and driving food innovation.

Rural Solutions SA is the key on-ground delivery arm of PIRSA providing a critical interface between government and stakeholders. It has specialist expertise in delivering modern extension methods, drought response and adverse event recovery. Rural Solutions SA facilitates, develops and delivers policies, projects and programs focussed on agricultural productivity and management of natural resources.
