Best practice and policy in abalone stock enhancement, restocking and translocation

In Australia several large-scale experimental abalone restocking projects have been conducted, primarily in NSW and WA, with promising results and conclusions. While the projects have cost just over $1.7 million, none of the outcomes have translated into commercial-scale abalone stock enhancement, restocking or translocation. This project will review abalone stocking projects in Australia, current strategic directions and management policies to identify potential roadblocks to the commercialisation of abalone stocking in Australia and develop a national approach to abalone stock enhancement, restocking and translocation.
