Energy Farmers: Turning Waste into Wealth with Sustainable Pyrolysis Solutions

Opportunity for

  • Investors and strategic partners who can bring business expertise and global market influence to propel our innovation forward.
  • Organisations dealing with complex waste streams or eager to up cycle organic waste for greater returns to partner.
^This opportunity is only for professional and sophisticated investors.

Opportunity description

Industry challenge

Our initial target market is waste in the grains industry, but our solution has application across a range of industries wherever waste is an issue.

Grain dust collected at bulk export facilities, non-commercial grain and plastic tarpaulins used to cover open grain bulkheads. These types of waste are a problem for the grains industry, they are problematic and expensive to dispose of. Currently, a lot of this waste is being landfilled.

Our solution will convert the waste into biochar and a liquid emulsion suitable for the road construction industry, where there is significant demand pull. Converting waste into biochar also has the potential to produce carbon credits on the international voluntary market and can assist proponents to achieve carbon neutrality. In the Australian grains industry, there are 3 main players, 32 export facilities and over 250 receival points and we estimate, a market in excess of $100 Million.

Current opportunity

We welcome both investment and project collaboration opportunities. If you have a difficult to manage waste, or want to create more value from it, we want to hear from you.

For investors, our innovative approach to sustainable waste management and negative emission technology presents a promising avenue for financial growth in a growing market.

We have seen significant traction over the last 12 months. This includes:

  1. Completed fabrication and in the later stages of commissioning our first GEN1 project.
  2. Successfully designed, built, and delivered a fully automated and mobile Self-Contained Shredder Unit for CBH.
  3. Successful in two WA Government Grants. The Local Capability Fund, to assist with the costs associated with licensing our premises for biochar production and The Innovation Fund, to assist with the electrification of our Gen2 prototype.
  4. Successful in our application to the Federal Government's, Industry Growth Program
  5. Initiated a patent application for our Gen2 technology.

By working with us, partners can actively contribute to the development and expansion of our business. We recognize the need to build our team and increase our design and engineering capabilities so we can meet the needs of clients efficiently and effectively.

Opportunity background

We are developing two technologies. Gen1 and Gen2.

We have built our first commercial project with Gen1. This is an end-to-end and automated solution that will shred, store and pyrolyze a problematic waste stream for a client in the resources industry.

The market opportunity for Gen1 is where there is an excess of clean feedstock with low or no commercial value. Organics wastes can be converted to biochar mitigating waste management costs and generate revenue through biochar sales and carbon credits.

We have validated and tested Gen2 at bench scale and are now building our first working prototype. What is unique about Gen2, is that it contains any volatiles produced during the process, into liquids and solid products, directly applicable to the roads construction industry. We see potential for Gen2 where there are waste steams contaminated with plastics such as council green wastes or have a high moisture content, such as poultry litter and FOGO waste.

What sets us apart from our competitors is that we don’t just build pyrolysis machines, we offer the complete end to end solution. Our units are modular and mobile giving project proponents’ greater flexibility to manage their waste

Potential other applications

Processing waste via pyrolysis produces biochar. Biochar, traditionally used in soils, is attracting global interest for its ability to drawdown carbon and we are seeing significant demand from the road construction industry.

We are investigating several opportunities in this space.

  1. Poultry farms produce significant amounts of poultry litter, a combination of manure and bedding material. Traditionally, this product is sold as a soil amendment for little or no value. There are over 800 broiler farms in Australia, producing approx. 800,000 tonne of poultry waste annually. Converting this waste into biochar produces a high value soil amendment and potentially carbon credits.

  2. In 2018/19 Australia produced over 14M tonne of organic waste of which 7M tonne was landfilled. Households produced half of this waste. There are over 1000 landfill sites in Australia and managing this problem is largely left to local government and costs the taxpayer approx. 3.4B/year. There are 537 local government authorities in Australia, all with similar problems.

  3. Wooden pallets, cardboard and paper waste from households and manufacturing also present significant is issues with over 1M tonnes landfilled annually. We are currently planning a trial with a proponent in the construction space on cardboard and wooden pallets from a solar farm instillation.
