WAFIC, Recfishwest, DPIRD and SSPWA attendance at 'Engaging Leaders Innovating Across Sectors' (ELIAS)

Western Australia needs to develop an efficient, equitable and transparent process for sharing of defined fisheries resources across sectors - commercial and recreational, to align with legislative requirements. The process of resource sharing and allocation of rights in relation to these fisheries is experiencing a range of strains that continue to compound. The absence of an efficient and effective process for allocation and reallocation of resources creates uncertainty and leads to resource sharing disputes which are counterproductive and divisive across coastal communities. This project supports attendance by industry leaders at a conference, 'Engaging Leaders Innovating Across Sectors', with the aim of developing their capacity to work across commercial fishing, recreational fishing and government sectors to solve complex problems using innovative methods.
