Understanding white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) transmission in Moreton Bay - epidemiological modelling of surveillance data

The project "Understanding white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) transmission in Moreton Bay - epidemiological modelling of surveillance data" conducted by AusVet Pty Ltd aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the spread of white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) in Moreton Bay. The project was initiated in response to positive WSSV detections in mangrove crabs and prawn farms in the area. The objectives of the project were to identify the vectors or sentinels involved in WSSV spread, design appropriate surveillance strategies, determine the rate of WSSV spread and the current zone affected, assess the impact of seasonal factors on spread, and advise on potential changes in the geographic boundary of the affected zone. The project aimed to analyze existing surveillance data and provide independent epidemiological advice to improve biosecurity measures and inform management practices in the prawn farming industry. The findings of the project would help enhance biosecurity plans, guide industry and policy makers in implementing effective management strategies, and identify potential risk factors for disease transmission and spread.
