Survey of vertebrate and invertebrate pests and beneficials harbouring in harvest weed-seed control systems
This project will provide insights into how different harvest weed seed control (HWSC) systems influence invertebrates and mice populations. The invertebrate species associated with HWSC systems are poorly understood. There has been a recent system change with more growers opting for chaff collection either in lines between rows, on tramlines or in chaff dumps rather than burning. This has been associated with reports of new pest species but with little information on damage to the subsequent crop.
