NPF Tiger Prawn Fishery Adaptation Strategy workshop

The NPF Tiger Prawn Fishery Adaptation Strategy workshop project brings several benefits. Firstly, it addresses concerns about declining productivity in the NPF tiger prawn fishery, attributed to environmental and climate change factors rather than fishing effort. By identifying deficiencies in the current stock assessment model and data collection framework, the project aims to improve the fishery's ability to meet management objectives, legislative requirements, and maintain Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification. The workshop provides a platform for stakeholders to discuss and integrate new methods and components that incorporate spatial and climate change considerations into the assessment model. The project supports the NPF industry in responding to the AFMA Commission's request for climate change impacts to be considered in future fisheries management. Ultimately, the project seeks to enhance both the biological and economic performance of the NPF by addressing key concerns and improving the stock assessment model for tiger prawns.
