Minor use permit for praziquantel for non-Seriola finfish

The project "Minor Use Permit for Praziquantel for Non-Seriola Finfish" aims to address the need for effective treatment options against ectoparasite infections in finfish aquaculture. Currently, only a limited number of products are permitted for use, which can have negative effects on fish gills and skin. Praziquantel (PZQ) has shown to be safe and efficacious against fish flatworm parasites with a lower environmental impact and improved efficacy compared to existing treatments. Obtaining a minor use permit for PZQ would allow its use in finfish, improving parasite management, production, and fish welfare. The project seeks to collect and collate data to satisfy the requirements of the permit application, filling the gaps in existing knowledge and demonstrating the efficacy, safety, and environmental impact of PZQ. Ultimately, the permit would provide the aquaculture industry with a valuable tool for parasite management and contribute to improved production outcomes and fish health.
