Habitat ecological risk assessment for eco-regions with high trawl footprints, in southern Queensland and northern NSW

The Habitat Ecological Risk Assessment project in southern Queensland and northern NSW provides several benefits, including meeting legislative requirements for sustainable fisheries, conserving marine ecosystems, and protecting biodiversity. By collecting data on sensitive habitats and bycatch species, the project fills knowledge gaps and enables accurate risk assessments. It establishes a consistent approach for managing demersal assemblages in trawl fisheries and promotes collaboration between stakeholders. The project's objective MSE-type approach evaluates risk-management options, ensuring effective mitigation measures. Overall, it enhances understanding of trawl footprints, informs decision-making, and supports the conservation and sustainable management of marine habitats and species in the region.
