A global review on implications of plastic in seafood

The global review on implications of plastic in seafood aims to provide valuable insights and benefits to the fishing and aquaculture sectors. By synthesizing global data, the project will examine the potential effects of plastic on seafood species and its impact on the industry. Additionally, the project will quantify the abundance of plastic entering aquatic systems from seafood-related sources, focusing on the Australian context. This knowledge will enable the evaluation of appropriate mitigation strategies to reduce the presence and impacts of microplastics in seafood. By identifying sources of plastic pollution and highlighting key knowledge gaps, the project will guide future research, facilitate the development of management and mitigation strategies, and promote a circular economy in the seafood sector. Dissemination of findings to fishers and managers will ensure the information reaches key stakeholders and informs decision-making processes.
