Opportunity for
- Commercial partnerships with established or scale-up companies or agritech innovators wishing to test, trial or validate products.
- Grower groups, universities and agronomists looking to trial a technology for conducting scientific, farm scale trials.
- Agricultural companies seeking technology to enable field scale testing of new products or participate in a variety of on-site initiatives in collaboration with New South Wales Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI)
Current opportunity
industry challenge:
Agritech innovators require access to working orchards to install, test, trial, and validate technologies and demonstrate product performance.
Orange Agricultural Institute (OAI) has an established working cherry orchard. The orchard provides an opportunity for agritech innovators to demonstrate their technology in a relevant environment.
The Australian cherry industry is in a period of rapid growth enabling an ideal opportunity to introduce innovation to support our growers to continue to supply quality, sustainable fruit.
Current opportunity:
NSW DPI’s OAI Cherry Testbed offers innovators the opportunity to demonstrate technology in association with NSW DPI. Inclusion in the on-site demonstration site will ensure companies have the benefit of their technologies being displayed to growers in association with NSW DPI events and grower information days.
Opportunity background:
The ‘Farms of the Future’ program has already enabled technology to be installed at the testbed. Technology installed focuses on weather monitoring, plant health and irrigation scheduling.
The customised site will enable producers to easily view both commercial technology in operation (provided by the Farms of the Future scheme) and emerging technologies under development. Where appropriate, performance of devices can be linked into and reported into the Farms of the Future dashboard platforms as part of the grower showcase.
Potential other applications:
NSW DPI has 13,000 hectares of land under management over 25 sites in NSW, new enquiries regarding opportunities to utilise NSW DPI’s assets are always welcomed.
