RRD4P Dryland Legume Pasture Systems
The project seeks to increase the adoption of novel legumes in the low and medium rainfall areas of southern Australia. It will focus on cultivars of biserrula, Ornithopus, Aerial Trifoliums, Trigonella, Scorpiurus, Hedysarum, with germplasm choice guided by rainfall level and soil type. These legumes will reduce nitrogen requirements, increase soil fertility, reduce weeds and diseases for following crops and be a source of quality feed for livestock. The project will also develop whole farm economic modelling to equip farmers with tools to adopt new pasture varieties and management practices.
