DataFarming: weedSAT - reducing herbicide use with satellite imagery - investment opportunity

Opportunity for

  • Venture capital, corporate venture capital, chemical and machinery corporates and OEMs.
^This opportunity is only for professional and sophisticated investors.

Opportunity description

Industry challenge

Grain farmers still blanket spray fields with herbicide, when in many cases only a small % of the field has weeds. Hard to kill/resistant weeds are a serious threat to production costing $200M per year in Australia alone. DataFarming are developing two satellite derived weed detection products called weedSAT, to reduce herbicide use both in-crop and during the fallow by up to 80%. It is globally scalable, and doesn't require capital expenditure (for the farmer).

Current opportunity

We are seeking $2M of investment to help develop and deploy this technology to Australian and American no-till farmers covering nearly 60,000,000 hectares. Projected revenue across Australia and the USA could reach $50M by 2030 with modest adoption rates.

Opportunity background

DataFarming already have a digital platform that services nearly 40,000 farms across 50 countries (and nearly 40% of all grain farmers in Aust). We have also developed high resolution satellite imagery pipelines to enable automated ordering and delivery of the outputs.

Potential other applications

This work can be extended beyond weeds into plant diseases as well.
