Opportunity for
- Surenut are seeking engagement from manufacturers to integrate our IP into commercially produced electronic sorters and contribute to the optimisation of quality assurance processes in the nuts and grains industry.
Opportunity description
Industry challenge:
The quality assurance process for nuts and grains is renowned for being labour intensive, slow, costly (with excessive wastage) and at times, subjective, which leaves potential risk to public health in some countries to threats of known carcinogens, such as Aflatoxin B1. Surenut’s optimisation method can eliminate over and under sorting errors while deliver high-quality objective QA data, with less re-runs/recalls and elimination of over-sorting, keeping profits high.
Our machine can assist at every stage of the process flow. Obtaining this data in near to real time reduces manual checking by Hullers which means significant time savings and improved quality testing. It also gives processors the ability to liaise quickly and confidently with marketing teams in parallel with its ability to compile DA reports and improve intake management and warehouse management.
We can make significant improvement across all stages of the process flow for nuts and grains, moving from the growers to the processors in faster time with higher QA confidence.
Current opportunity:
Surenut would like to engage with sorter manufacturers to utilize our IP to build electronic sorters that eject Aflatoxin B1 contaminated product and optimise sorting processes. We need a partner who will help us grow the reach of our technology on a global, commercial scale.
We are already beginning to roll out our tested technology across all nuts and grains, following our achievement of breakthrough results in Almonds. We have successfully tested and integrating our methods into Pistachio analysis (via the split in the shells) with calibrated rates of aflatoxin B1 and can accurately read those levels on the kernels through the shells, demonstrating our readiness to move forward and continue expansion in food health. Our vision is to roll this out in international markets.
Opportunity background:
In July 2021, SureNut achieved the world first breakthrough of accurately measuring Aflatoxin B1 levels on each almond, through the skin, down to 0.05 ppb. Our aflatoxin B1 test is highly accurate, fast, in-house, non-destructive and involves no dangerous chemicals – unlike current wet lab methods which requires a sample of 20kgs of nuts to be destroyed for analysis.
Aflatoxin B1 is a known carcinogen that accumulates in the liver and excessive consumption can be fatal. It poses a threat in third world countries, where food such as Maize (which has high Aflatoxin levels) are regularly consumed. The World Health Organisation has a huge priority to reduce the Aflatoxins in third world countries. Our technology can change global food safety with its ability to accurately detect Aflatoxin B1 with skin on and with minimal wastage, making it our point of difference to other electronic sorters.
Surenut IP holds the potential to sort every nut inline in the processing system and eject it so that Aflatoxin B1 levels will readily meet EU standards (international patent pending).
Potential other applications:
Whilst all testing is currently on nuts, our vision is to globally change QA analysis for nuts & grains industry as a whole.
