Opportunity for
- Protected cropping growers interested in enhancing their crop yield through the use of innovative films and participating in the LLEAF R&D Partner Program.
Opportunity description
Industry challenge:
LLEAF is addressing the overarching problem that traditional greenhouses are primarily designed to protect crops but often fall short in enhancing crop growth. LLEAF is taking cultivation to the next level by providing solutions that not only safeguard crops but also optimise their growth and yield.
LLEAF’s films stimulate plant growth and significantly enhance crop yield. Research and trials have shown that the use of LLEAF's technology can lead to yield increases of 10-35% in crops such as leafy greens and berries. Not only do the films boost yields, but they also contribute to larger and more valuable produce, shorter crop growth cycles, and quicker crop turnover.
Current opportunity:
LLEAF is seeking growers to partner with us in trials of our greenhouse films. LLEAF has already conducted trials with universities and research institutions, and is seeking to establish case studies with commercial growers. LLEAF has already begun partnerships with growers and seen consistent promising results.
The partnership involves growers running a trial with LLEAF film, and providing data, feedback, photos, and other information to LLEAF. In exchange, LLEAF will provide research contractor fees of up to 100% of the cost of the film.
This opportunity is open to all protected cropping growers provided the trial is unique.
Opportunity background:
LLEAF specialises in the development, patenting, and production of unique light-responsive dyes. These dyes respond to sunlight by fluorescing, both absorbing and emitting light. Their primary function is to alter the natural sunlight spectrum to better suit specific crops. LLEAF incorporates these dyes into transparent plastics, which offer the added benefit of light diffusion.
Through an increased presence of red light in the spectrum, LLEAF's technology accelerates plant growth, potentially leading to larger and more valuable produce, while also shortening the overall crop growth cycle. This results in quicker crop turnover, which can enhance agricultural productivity. Additionally, this technology enables growers to engage in out-of-season cultivation, tapping into the potential for improved pricing in off-peak markets.
LLEAF’s films also diffuse light, which reduces the occurrence of shade spots, allows light to penetrate below the upper canopy of plants, and ensures more even light distribution across the crop, promoting healthier and uniform plant growth.
