LiveCorp: Proof of concept trial for automated collection of animal weights – innovation challenge

Opportunity for
- Innovators, solution providers and startups/scaleups/SME’s with commercial solutions ready for proof of concept in livestock export industry
- On-farm livestock technology providers with proven weighing technologies.
Opportunity description
Industry challenge:
Weight can be a key indicator of animals' performance. In the livestock export industry, currently only aggregate weights are recorded at loading and off-loading of animals from shipping vessels. Recording individual weights of animals would provide greater insights into the performance (and, by extension, wellbeing) of the animals during transit. Existing systems, such as walk-over-weighing, and other technologies used at feedlot stations to record individual cattle weights may be a potential solution.
The Live Export Program (LEP) has engaged Impact Innovation to develop an Open Innovation Pipeline to allow multiple small-scale technology trials to satisfy the livestock export industry’s desire for practical and immediate solutions to common supply chain problems. The Innovation Pipeline enables the LEP RD&E Program to leverage existing technology solutions or provide an avenue to trial novel solutions and technology through short, sharp projects. The open innovation approach will ensure that technology solutions can be identified faster and trialled within industry sooner, compared to the traditional research process.
Current opportunity:
LiveCorp are seeking applications for proof-of-concept research project from innovators, solution providers and startups/scaleups/SME’s. ‘Visit website’ to find terms of reference (ToR) details. Responses to this ToR are expected to outline a three (3) month pilot project, or Proof of Concept (PoC) trial, that translates an existing solution to benefit the livestock export industry.
The intended benefit of this project to the livestock export industry is to provide insights into the performance and wellbeing of animals during livestock export.
If the Proof of Concept (PoC) trial is successful, it may be selected to progress to a larger scale project, where appropriate.
Click 'visit website' to view the full Terms of Reference for each of the challenge statements, you will also need to create an account when you wish to submit a proposal.
