Farmers2Founders: Circular Value Startup Innovation Program

Opportunity for

  • Startups in regional NSW who are innovating ways to fight the war on food waste through upcycling and recycling.

Opportunity description

Industry challenge:

The National Food Waste Strategy has set the target of halving food waste by 2030. To tackle this it's imperative to consider the integration of circular practices within our food and beverage sectors.

At its core, the circular economy is designed to minimise waste and pollution by maximising the longevity of products, materials, and components. This approach diverges significantly from the conventional linear model that operates on a "take, produce, and discard" basis.

By embracing the principles of the circular economy, we stand a better chance of diminishing waste, preserving our resources, and protecting the environment.

Current opportunity:

We are looking to support startups that are developing innovative products and solutions that will make a positive contribution to the sustainability and circular economy credentials within their value chains.

This could include startups:

  • Raw materials - upcycled or ingredients that would otherwise have been discarded
  • Manufacturing - utilising byproducts from the manufacturing process that can be upcycled into new products or used within the process
  • Supply chain - working with farmers, suppliers and distributors who also prioritise upcycling and recycling
  • Packaging - recycled or biodegradable materials for packaging and/or packaging that customers can repurpose or reuse
  • Retail - inclusion of return or refill program for glass or durable plastic containers.
