Management and optimisation of the AWRI Wine Microorganism Culture Collection

The aim of this investment is to provide a characterised, properly maintained and resourced wine microorganism collection for use by researchers and the wine sector. The AWRI Wine Microorganism Culture Collection (AWMCC) contains nearly 20,000 diverse strains of yeast and bacteria including yeast genome deletion libraries, proprietary strains, and natural isolates from Australian wineries. The AWMCC is essential for capturing the value of Australia’s investment in microbial strain isolation and development.. It is fundamental to the success of wine-related biological research projects, which depend on ready access to correctly identified strains. This project supports the ongoing acquisition, curation, maintenance, and assistance in identification and ready access to correctly identified strains for the Australian wine industry.
