Anticoagulant rodenticide excretion in rats following median lethal dose (LD50) administration

While rodenticide residue levels are low and therefore unlikely to affect the safety of pork, there is a consumer perception of food safety risk. Understanding anticoagulant excretion and behavioural/mobility changes that occur when rodents consume anticoagulant rodenticides is critical for managing the risks associated with rodenticide use and in developing best practice guidelines. Therefore, this project aimed to develop an understanding of the environmental risk of anticoagulant rodenticides used on farm, as well as other risks associated with them. This is needed to maintain consumer confidence in Australian pork and protect export market access.
