Cannai: Medicinal Cannabis Cultivation Farm – New Tech Trial Site

Opportunity for

  • Research organisations seeking trial partners for cannabis cultivation innovation
  • Companies or startups with new agtech, biotech, or IP seeking a licensed pilot site
  • Industry partners exploring collaboration with a compliant, science-driven cultivation facility

Opportunity description

Industry challenge

As Australia’s medicinal cannabis industry grows, demand is increasing for real-world data to support emerging cultivation technologies, strain development, and science-based production systems. Yet few producers offer the compliance, transparency, and operational access required for effective research collaboration. Cannai addresses this gap by offering a purpose-built, research-focused cannabis farm with a strong culture of innovation and open data sharing.

Current opportunity

Cannai is a licensed, fully operational greenhouse cultivation facility based in Victoria’s Yarra Valley. With a focus on sustainable, organic, and data-driven growing methods, the team is actively seeking collaborators—whether research organisations, IP holders, or early-stage startups—interested in trialling or validating cannabis-related technologies, inputs, or cultivation methodologies. Cannai offers a compliant and controlled environment suited to rigorous trials, and is particularly interested in partnerships that support long-term R&D and commercial scalability.

All harvested material is processed on-site in Cannai’s licensed post-harvest facility, ensuring traceability and enabling end-to-end trials that cover cultivation through to drying, trimming, and packaging.

The site is designed for modular expansion, and with investment, Cannai has the capacity to significantly scale production, expand post-harvest infrastructure, and support commercialisation of successful R&D outcomes.

Opportunity background

Following five years of development and regulatory approvals, Cannai began operations in late 2024 and by May 2025, had already successfully harvested four crops. The team combines strong project delivery capability with deep horticultural knowledge and a commitment to building a more evidence-driven industry

Potential other applications

In addition to current greenhouse operations, Cannai is preparing for low-cost outdoor trial cultivation over the next 12–18 months. This will open further scope for partnerships exploring agtech, microbial inputs, climate-resilient genetics, and broadacre cultivation strategies
