Various NCCP Operations case studies for the Mid Murray region, and Murray and Murrumbidgee river systems and GIS support for two other NCCP case studies (Lachlan and Loch 1 - Loch 3)

The Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC) is leading the National Carp Control Plan (NCCP), which aims to explore the use of the carp virus as a biocontrol agent to manage invasive common carp in Australian freshwater environments. The NCCP will provide valuable information to governments regarding the technical feasibility, costs, benefits, and risks associated with releasing the carp virus. It will also assess community and stakeholder perspectives and determine if further research is required for successful virus deployment. The case study conducted by the Wedge Group and Ertech focused on the Southern Murray-Darling Basin catchment and provided a conceptual deployment and management strategy, resource plans, and cost estimates. The case study findings inform the NCCP's implementation strategy and cost-benefit analysis, supporting the ongoing refinement of the plan. The case study's objectives included mapping carp populations, assessing deployment and carcass management technologies, determining resource requirements, developing an operational response, and estimating costs. Overall, the project aims to effectively suppress carp populations, protect environmental assets, and manage risks associated with the carp virus deployment.
