Updated report on the Nature of Competition in the red meat processing industry
AMPC’s 2015 report on the nature of competition in the beef industry informed discussion on the competition issues facing the industry. It was highly valued by processors as a reference document for use in various inquiries and debates, and cited economic research indicating the industry operates in a competitive manner. Currently there are inquiries again raising competition concerns which could impact meat processing. This project would update the report on developments since 2015 in terms of industry structure, competition policy inquiries and decisions, and new economic research, including that undertaken on cattle cycles and price transmission.
