Unlocking the potential of kikuyu
The objective of this project is to improve the use of kikuyu, an economical and widely adopted C4 grass species, as part of the feedbase to enhance productivity and reduce risk on farms. It focuses on developing new management strategies to grow and utilize more kikuyu during summer and boost the productivity of kikuyu-based pastures. Key research areas include advanced technologies and remote sensing for monitoring, genetic diversity, antinutritional factors, environmental impacts, and opportunities for real-time prediction and manipulation of nutritive value for livestock.
