Unlocking Private Investment in Australian Agriculture and Agricultural Innovation
This project aims to help attract more private investment into Australian agriculture and agricultural innovation. At the moment, most new ideas and technologies in the sector rely on government or levy funding. Large investors, such as superannuation funds and insurers, often see agriculture as risky or unfamiliar, which limits the flow of long-term capital into the sector.
This work will build a clearer understanding of how investment currently flows into agriculture, why private investors often hold back and what changes could make the sector more appealing. We will also look at successful examples from other countries to see what might work in Australia.
A key part of the project is speaking directly with the people involved, including investors, government agencies, RDCs and industry leaders. Their insights will help shape practical solutions.
The goal is to create clear options and tools that support more private investment, helping Australian agriculture grow, innovate and increase resilience over time to drive food security.
