Transformation of Verticillium dahliae, causal agent of Verticillium wilt of cotton, with the GFP gene
This project has developed a protocol to prepare cotton samples infected with GFP (Green fluorescent protein)-tagged Verticillium dahliae for confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). This allows high resolution visualisation of fungal penetration into the vasculature of cotton root, stem, and leaf tissues. This new technique will allow better understanding of the infection and colonisation process of this important disease.
