Testing sheep and beef tissues for semi-carbazide residues
Detections of semi-carbazide residues in Australian sheepmeat and beef export products by Korea have led to the suspension of three export establishments and threaten access of all exporters to this key market. This project proposes to continue the investigation into this mysterious chemical residue by testing various tissues of sheep and cattle that have been dosed with semi-carbazide in accordance with a protocol developed by the Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). The test results will be used by DAFF to assist in the development of a submission to be discussed with Korean authorities by DAFF to agree on red meat products unlikely to have detectable residues.
