Synthesis of Case Studies Investigating the Value of Seasonal Climate Forecasts

This project is a synthesis of the value of Seasonal Climate Forecasting (SCF) to Australian agriculture realised through the key results and findings of a number of existing case studies generated by the Managing Climate Variability program. The synthesis provides authoritative analysis of forecast value and the conditions required to realise this value. Three concise technical reports cover: (i) a compilation of key results across the case studies into a single report focussing on cross-industry findings about the application of SCF in Australian agriculture; (ii) Detailed analyses for a single case study assessing the relative value of SCF compared with the value of better information on conditions driven by climate variability (eg. soil moisture, pasture availability); and (iii) Recommendations in relation to investment to lead to the greatest value to farmers under any unfolding state of nature.
