Study to review automation of banana de-handing
This project is examining whether it is feasible to automate de-handing of bananas. A hand of bananas is usually separated from the stem using a sharp knife.
The research team will conduct a time and motion study of banana processing in an operational processing facility and produce a feasibility report into the challenges and immediate opportunities around integrating robotics into de-handing. This will include potential next steps such as proof of concept, technology demonstration and design workshops, and provide the banana industry with an understanding of what would be required to progress towards automation.
