Space based technology opportunities for the rural sector
This project will scan, review and consolidate information on the potential of three main components of space-based technologies – remote sensing, connectivity and geolocation – to benefit Australia’s farmers, fishers and foresters through improvements in productivity, profitability and sustainability. For each component, the project will explore existing technologies and use cases, end-user uptake and future technologies that can be developed or transferred from adjacent industries. Three approaches will be used: (i) a desktop review of existing literature; (ii) expert panel input; and (iii) industry consultation. This will allow assessment of the depth and breadth of current and future of opportunities for the application of satellite-based technologies in the rural sector.
