Seaweed National Hatchery Network (NHN) - Tropical Research Hub for Asparagopsis taxiformis

The Seaweed National Hatchery Network (NHN) - Tropical Research Hub for Asparagopsis taxiformis, led by JCU in collaboration with ASSA researchers, aims to establish a dedicated facility and operational hub for seaweed research. Funded by FRDC for 18 months, the project focuses on developing key technical capabilities and infrastructure essential for advancing hatchery techniques. Objectives include establishing necessary facilities, conducting focused research to close Asparagopsis taxiformis' lifecycle, developing biological contamination management strategies, maintaining a broodstock culture, and refining hatchery technology through experimentation. The hub aims to accelerate seedstock availability and support sustainable growth in Australia's seaweed industry by addressing R&D challenges and fostering collaborations among stakeholders. It emphasizes knowledge sharing, database development, milestone reporting, and stakeholder engagement to ensure robust and scalable hatchery practices for future industry viability.
