Seafood CRC: Extending biotoxin capability and research in Australia through development of an experimental biotoxin contamination facility to target industry relevant issues

Biotoxins present an ongoing issue across a broad range of seafood types presenting both public health and market access risks. This project aimed to better understand the uptake pathways of the toxins, the effectiveness of rapid test kits, and to understand the effects of processing on the uptake of biotoxins. The project established a biotoxin contamination facility able to be used concurrently by multiple industries (oysters, abalone and southern rock lobster) and provided a store of contaminated material that can be used for reference in future work.
