RACE 2030 – Pilot Biogas Reactor Installation and Wet Commissioning
This project is the 2nd stage installation and commissioning of two special purpose pilot-scale anaerobic co-digesters (i.e. 2x500L) that were acquired in Dec 2023 through the 1st stage AMPC project 2024-1003 (A). This project now establishes a centralised testing facility for red meat processing waste streams and co-feedstocks that will be utilised in the reactors as part of the RACE for 2030 CRC Stage 2 project on AnCoD for red meat processors.
The reactors will be accommodated at the RACE for 2030 project lead investigator (Tessele) premises in Perth WA. They will enable the RACE for 2030 stage 2 project to proceed and assess site-specific feasibility for anaerobic digestion (AD), optimise biogas production through tailored co- digestion strategies, and evaluate digestate quality for use as soil conditioner. The pilot setup de-risks full-scale implementation by replicating real-world conditions and providing operational insights, including process control, maintenance, and safety requirements. This project will also serve as a shared platform supporting broader industry adoption and innovation.
