Quantifying Banded Morwong, Bluethroat Wrasse and Purple Wrasse abundance and movements to sustain key fisheries in Tasmania - postgraduate

The project on quantifying Banded Morwong, Bluethroat Wrasse, and Purple Wrasse abundance and movements in Tasmania offers several benefits to sustain key fisheries in the region. The project aims to improve stock assessment approaches and establish a fishery-independent monitoring program to ensure the long-term sustainability of commercial fisheries. By collecting and analyzing data on reef fish abundance and movements, the project enhances our understanding of population dynamics and localized depletion. The findings will inform assessments of catch, effort, and catch rates, as well as guide management decisions for Banded Morwong. The project also contributes to capacity building by recruiting a suitable PhD candidate to conduct the research. Overall, the project enhances knowledge, supports evidence-based management, and promotes the sustainability of fisheries in Tasmania.
