Product Fraud: Impacts on Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry Industries

This project will assess and quantify Australian food products in terms of product vulnerability to determine the aggregate extent of food fraud (where food is illegally placed in the market with the intention of deceiving the consumer), and provide a quantitative assessment of the current impact and cost of food fraud for the Australian agriculture, fisheries and forestry industries, as well as their value chains. The project will incorporate a stocktake of ways industries are currently considering and addressing this issue and will include case studies of successful strategies.

The study also examines domestic and international policy and regulatory options for governments, industry and the broader value chain to address the food fraud challenge, from the perspective of producers, traders and consumers. Key insights will be used to highlight and suggest practical food fraud mitigation measures.
