Primal Proof of Load RFID On-Site (Stage 2) Trials - Improved Traceability and Quality Control for Meat Products

Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology provides the opportunity to accurately track and monitor individual sheep and cattle from farm to abattoir. The ability to monitor individual animal performance provides opportunities to identify groups of animals that have similar traits and then apply better management strategies to deal with those similarities. The ability to gain carcass feedback on individual animals from the abattoirs adds value to on-farm management regimes. The potential threat from exotic disease outbreaks has also increased the importance of being able to trace individual animals from farm to abattoir. This project focussed on developing an RFID traceability system in Australian abattoirs.
