Prevention of Contamination of Rendered Meal and Tallow by Foreign Matter

The specific aim of this project is to ensure that meal and tallow are not contaminated with foreign matter by: 1. Ensuring that foreign objects do not enter the rendering process; and/or 2. Utilization of renderable materials within the supply chain that do not contaminate the final products. The rendering process is an efficient and effective method to safely treat animal by products to produce protein meals. The purpose of this project is to address the ongoing industry issue raised by the Australian Rendering Industry (ARA) regarding foreign matter in the rendered raw material. The presence of foreign matter in rendered products (e.g. metal, glass, ceramics, plastics) can cause serious concerns to the end user that can lead to product rejection, customer complaint and financial claims.
