Prawn trawl sea-snake bycatch reduction device - Assessment, refinement, and extension

The project "Prawn trawl sea-snake bycatch reduction device - Assessment, refinement, and extension" aims to mitigate the impact of prawn trawling on sea-snake populations globally, building on technology proven to reduce sea-snake landings by 80%. It focuses on comprehensively assessing the device's performance, understanding sea-snake escape patterns and their survival, and identifying other species benefiting from its use. The project includes a refinement phase based on assessment findings to enhance device effectiveness before extending it across various Australian prawn fisheries. By achieving successful reduction in sea-snake and other bycatch landings, the project supports sustainable fisheries priorities and aims to establish clear guidelines for widespread adoption of the Sea-snake TED/BRD in different prawn fisheries.
