PhD: Sustainable water extractions: Low flow refugia and critical flow thresholds
When inland rivers flow, biodiversity thrives. But when there is low or no flow, waterholes (refugia) become refuges for fish, animals and plants, which maintains ecosystems and riverine diversity. This PhD project studies the locations, features, and functions of waterhole refugia to guide decision making about irrigation, management of rivers, and neighbouring landscapes. The project will make recommendations on appropriate strategies, for restoration of in-channel and riverbank areas.
