Phase 2 - Shorter shearing intervals

Market indicators are showing shorter combing wools are achieving comparable prices to longer combing wools and some Australian producers are choosing to shear more frequently than every 12 months. This project will investigate the merits of shearing 6- or 8-monthly compared to 12-monthly on wool quality and quantity, improved reproduction, reduced incidence of disease, such as flystrike and lice and economic implications of changing shearing intervals. Analysis will be used to create a shearing and lambing decision guide for producers.
