Optimising reduced-protein diets for an efficient and sustainable layer production
This project addresses the knowledge gap of the optimisation of reduced protein diets, by exploring the effects of dietary enzyme (phytase and carbohydrase enzyme containing xylanase and beta-glucanase) inclusion and arginine, citrulline and guanidinoacetic acid supplementation on the production performance of laying hens fed reduced-protein diets. This will help to develop an optimal feeding program for laying hens resulting in improved feed efficiency, gut health, and litter quality, while reducing nitrogen and ammonia emission and industry reliance on imported protein meals. This is crucial to promote efficient and sustainable egg production.
