National Mung Bean Improvement Program
This investment in mung bean breeding will deliver superior new varieties with increased reliability and profitability for growers. The specific traits of high priority include: superior packages of yield, multiple disease resistance (particularly to halo blight & tan spot) and regional adaptation superior to the current commercial varieties. Grain quality attributes (grain size, visual appearance and low-levels of hard-seededness) will also be targeted to ensure the Australian industry retains access to premium markets.
