Nanotechnology with Tea Tree Oil

Flystrike is a major economic and animal welfare concern in the Australian Sheep Industry with increasing chemical resistance in sheep blowflies seriously compromising the effectiveness of sheep flystrike control. Protection against flystrike requires novel technologies to allow for less resistance. Nanotechnology offers a means of providing extended and 'softer' protection of sheep against flystrike, key wool producer considerations in control programs. This project will design and test unique Tea Tree Oil - nanoformulations with purpose-design release characteristics to give prolonged periods of protection against flystrike, with minimal residues and off-target effects.
