Monitoring SLW insecticide resistance

The management of silverleaf whitefly (SLW) in cotton is reliant on the use conventional insecticides. Slowing the development of resistance and maintaining the effectiveness of registered insecticides is a key goal of the insecticides resistance management strategy of which this project is an integral part. The project monitors insecticide resistance levels in SLW populations across the cotton industry so that informed decisions can be made balancing the risk of resistance with flexibility of control options. Key project outcomes include: 1. gathering of baseline data for whitefly insecticides, including recently registered products and cross resistance; 2. evaluation of insecticide impact on the SLW parasite Eretmocerus hayati; and 3. dissemination of findings to industry.
