Methods to profile and connect the provenance of wild caught prawn fisheries and their values to the community

Australia’s wild prawn industry is Australia’s largest wild catch trawling sector but the industry is aware that to protect its continued access to the natural resource – its social licence to operate – it must engage the Australian community on issues that the industry and community commonly share. This project aims to improve community acceptance of the wild prawn industry through the use of engagement tools that provide repeated and long-term connection with the community and the development of fisheries based authentic stories addressing relevant issues and RD&E initiatives. It will build a database of engaged community members to which the industry can communicate on its commitment and achievements and receive questions and feedback. The effectiveness of these approaches to community engagement will be measured through recognised evaluation channels.
